Troop 21 Golf Tournament

The weather was perfect for the recent Troop 21 golf tournament held at St. Stan’s Golf Course on March 31.  It was warm and sunny and the Troop 21 banner flapped gently in the breeze as the golfers filled up on donuts, and then hit the links on the 9-hole, par-3 course.

Two St. Stan’s golf pros provided instruction to our group, which included a few first-time golfers.  We learned the proper way to grip a club, the correct method for swinging, and a few tips for putting.  Before long, we were in our teams and teeing off.

We played a modified “best ball” game in small teams.  Michael Ryan and Russ Asai were a great pair and finished the tournament in first place.  Matt Johnson was the putting champion for the day, and Tim Bughi walked away with the unofficial longest drive award (thanks in large part to Trevor Stevens’ coveted Taylor Made bubble shaft driver!).

In addition to the golf game and putting contest, all tournament participants enjoyed a barbecued hamburger lunch on the lawn of the golf course.  St. Stan’s presented each Scout with balls, tees and a divot tool in the hope they will golf again some day.

We would like to give a special Troop 21 thank you to St. Stan’s office manager Donna Ledford for her wonderful assistance in organizing this tournament and for providing prizes for the Scouts.  Donna and the entire staff at St. Stan’s were very helpful and welcomed our Troop with enthusiasm.

Be on the lookout for information about future Troop 21 golf tournaments!

Laser Tag

Although popcorn sales ended last November, the time had finally come for the top sellers to receive their reward of a night of laser tag .  Scouts who sold $250 or more were entitled to this evening of fun and lasers.

Fifteen members of Troop 21 gathered recently to shoot it out in the dark at the Laser Quest course in Modesto.  We each selected code names for ourselves, from Farm Boy to Sack-o-Cheese, and headed out to listen to the Game Marshall give us the rules of the game.

We played three rounds, including the popular “Frantic” style of laser tag.  Tim the Toolman scored Laser Quest’s second highest point total of the day, and several other Scouts had high-ranking scores.  In between games, the quarters were plunking into the video games and soda machine.

All agreed this was an awesome event and a nice reward for selling popcorn.
